Rosiglitazone ((ROS-e-glit-a-zone)) is used to treat a certain type of diabetes mellitus (sugar diabetes) called type 2 diabetes. It may be used alone or with another type of diabetes medicine, such as metformin, insulin, a sulfonylurea, or sulfonylurea plus metformin.

Rosiglitazone is used for: Controlling blood sugar levels, along with diet and exercise, in patients with type 2 diabetes. Rosiglitazone is an oral diabetes medicine that help control blood sugar levels. Rosiglitazone is for people with type 2 diabetes who do not use daily insulin injections. This medication is not for treating type 1 diabetes.

Rosiglitazone maleate is an oral antidiabetic agent which acts primarily by increasing insulin sensitivity. Rosiglitazone is used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (also known as non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus [NIDDM] or adult-onset diabetes).
